Sam Friedman

SamFriedmanI am a lecturer in Sociology at City University London. I have a long-standing interest in the study of cultural taste and my forthcoming book, Comedy and Distinction (2014, Routledge), examines the relationship between social class and taste for British comedy. It explores what comedy people like (and dislike), how comedy taste lubricates everyday interaction, and whether some comedy tastes are valued higher than others in British society – representing a new source of contemporary or ’emerging’ cultural capital. Outside academia, I am also the publisher of Fest(, the biggest arts magazine covering the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
